Treatment Modalities
Brainspotting (BSP)
Discovered in 2003 by David Grand, Ph.D. while using EMDR. Brainspotting locates points in the visual field that help to access unprocessed trauma in the subcortical emotional and body-based parts of the brain while listening to bilateral sound.
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
Developed in 1987 by Dr. Francine Shapiro. This treatment uses bilateral stimulation (back and forth movement) by eye movement, hand tapping, or audio sounds while thinking about an emotionally disturbing situation. This allows the brain to process the event while eliminating emotional distress and gaining new cognitive insights.
Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
Developed by Drs. Anthony Mannarino, Judith Cohen, and Esther Deblinger in 2006. TF-CBT is a structured, short-term treatment model that effectively improves a wide range of traumas with children and caregivers. The goal of TF-CBT is to provide psychoeducation to both the child and non-offending caregivers, then help them identify, cope, and learn how to re-regulate maladaptive emotions, thoughts, and behaviors.
